NJ Personal Injury Lawyer David Silverstein Set to Climb Longs Peak in July

Attorney David Silverstein, of New Jersey personal injury law firm Lependorf & Silverstein, has been training for six months to climb Longs Peak in Colorado, one of the most challenging and dangerous climbs in the lower forty-eight states. The climb is scheduled for July.

Princeton, NJ – Personal injury lawyer David Silverstein is proud to announce that he will be climbing the Longs Peak “Keyhole Route” in Colorado on July 12, 2013 after six months of training.

About the Climb

Longs Peak, though not a technical climb in July, is considered a Class 3 climb and is one of the toughest climbs in the U.S. Class 3 refers to the level of difficulty; REI (Recreational Equipment Inc.) defines Class 3 as “climbing a steep hillside, moderate exposure, a rope may be carried but not used, and hands are used in climbing. A short fall could be possible.” The Keyhole Route is one of the most difficult Class 3 climbs in Colorado, including features such as sheer cliffs of 1,000 feet and a 600 vertical foot climb.

The climb is 16 miles round trip, will take approximately 16 hours, and has an approximate elevation gain of 5,000 feet. Longs Peak is one of 54 Colorado mountains with summits above 14,000 feet. It has five known trails: the Longs Peak Trail, the East Longs Peak Trail, Clark’s Arrow, the Shelf Trail, and, of course, the Keyhole Route. The Keyhole Route is rated as “technical” in the winter when ice formation and snow fall requires the use of specialized climbing equipment, but is downgraded in the summer. The hike/climb from the trailhead to the summit is eight miles each way and most hikers start their climb before dawn so that they could reach the summit and be back below the tree line to avoid the risk of lightning strikes from afternoon thunderstorms. The “Keyhole,” named after a rock formation, is 6.7 miles into the hike.
