Attorney David Silverstein to Attempt Solo Climb of Mount Bierstadt in Colorado

Proudly serving all of New Jersey

New Jersey personal injury attorney David Silverstein, partner at Lependorf & Silverstein, P.C., will attempt a solo climb of Mount Bierstadt, a 14er, in the Rocky Mountains later this month.

Princeton, New Jersey – Attorney David Silverstein is proud to announce that he will be attempting a solo climb of Mount Bierstadt in Colorado, along the East Ridge Route, which is categorized as a Class 3 climb. He will face a fair amount of exposure and the route will be all the more difficult in the fall as it will likely be covered with snow. Loss of footing on the exposed ridge could be fatal. The summit is just over 14,000 feet in elevation.

ABOUT MT. BIERSTADT

Mount Bierstadt is in Clear Creek County, Colorado in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. It is one of 54 Colorado “14ers” (mountains with peaks above 14,000 feet). It is, in fact, one of the most popular climbing mountains in Colorado. The mountain was named after a 19th century painter, Albert Bierstadt, who painted the Colorado Rockies.

THE CLIMB

There are three main routes on Mt. Bierstadt. The East Ridge Route, which is Route 3, begins near the trailhead at Echo Lake and enters the Mount Evans Wilderness area. It runs five miles with a gain in elevation of 3,000 feet. It is a Class 3 climb, which will require some scrambling and/or short technical moves. There is more serious exposure that could result in serious injury or death in the event of a fall. While the East Ridge Route is a Class 3 overall, there is a section of the Ridge that is categorized as a Class 5, which requires technical rock climbing. This Class 5 portion blocks a climber from climbing directly up the ridge if he or she is unable to exceed Class 3 rock (either in skill or equipment). There is a way around this section, however, to continue the Class 3 climb.
