Within the past few days and weeks, numerous drivers across the Garden State have faced severe consequences for committing hit-and-run incidents. These hit-and-run incidents have left victims dead and severely injured, and it is encouraging to see that those responsible are facing criminal penalties. That being said, it is important to remember that no amount of prison time will ever bring back the victims of these crashes. Grieving families often struggle with funeral costs, lost income, unpaid medical bills, grief, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and many other damages. Aside from criminal consequences, civil car accident lawsuits in New Jersey can help with these challenges.

Teen Faces Vehicular Homicide Charge After Ocean County Hit-and-Run

In June of 2025, it was reported that a teen had been arrested for a fatal hit-and-run in Ocean County. The teenager is accused of T-boning another sedan while driving his Infiniti, and the impact sent the victims’ vehicle straight into a utility pole.

When first responders arrived, they found both injured occupants inside. While they received treatment as quickly as possible, only one survived. This accident prompted an in-depth investigation by law enforcement that eventually led back to the teen. He could spend years behind bars if convicted.

Trucker Flees After Injuring Phillipsburg Resident

Also in June, a Phillipsburg resident was struck and injured while driving her Jeep Cherokee. She told police that she noticed a Freightliner truck approaching as she entered an intersection. Even though she had a green light and the trucker had a red light, the Freightliner continued to veer toward her.

An impact occurred in the intersection, and the Jeep was sent flying. Several other witnesses corroborated the victim’s story, stating that the trucker had indeed run a red light. After the collision, this trucker fled the scene and did not return.

Hit-and-Run Driver Sentenced to Six Years

June also saw the sentencing of a hit-and-run driver in New Jersey. The 21-year-old will spend six years in prison for striking and killing a female pedestrian in Brick Township. The authorities say that he fled the scene after the impact.

The woman was reportedly walking on the shoulder when the accident occurred. Although the crash happened in January of 2024, the family had to wait until now for justice.

Strange Case of Road Rage Almost Kills New Jersey Resident

Another recent hit-and-run case also involved serious road rage, and it almost claimed the life of a man in Gloucester Township. The incident began when the victim noticed a man in a Jeep tailing him in an aggressive manner. The situation escalated, and the man tried to run the victim off the road.

The victim then took an exit off Route 42 and attempted to escape back to his home. However, he couldn’t quite shake the man in the Jeep. The chase came to a halt at the victim’s residence, and both men got out of their cars. The victim questioned the other driver and asked him why he had followed him back to his house.

However, the aggressor did not even reply. Instead, he simply got back into his vehicle, stepped on the gas, and rammed the victim into his own parked truck. He then ran over the victim with his wheels, reversed into a tree, and fled the scene. Police say that they have identified a suspect who now faces multiple charges. The victim, on the other hand, has multiple broken bones and will probably never be the same.
