Teens Involved in Numerous Crashes in New JerseyOver the past few weeks, teens have been involved in numerous car crashes in New Jersey. In some situations, teens were to blame for these collisions. In other situations, they were injured or killed by negligent drivers. Whatever the case may be, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that teens between the ages of 16 and 19 face higher crash risks than any other group. Whether you were injured by a teen driver or your child is recovering from a life-altering car crash, an experienced auto accident lawyer in New Jersey may be able to help.

19-Year-Old Faces Vehicular Homicide Charges After Causing Fatal Head-On Collision

On June 18th, New Jersey 101.5 reported that a 19-year-old was facing vehicular homicide charges after causing a fatal head-on collision. The incident occurred in Bridgewater, and it involved the teen driver veering into oncoming traffic. This maneuver killed the driver of a Kia that impacted the teen’s Honda. Both drivers were seriously injured after the crash, and first responders transported them both to a nearby hospital. However, the Honda driver survived while the Kia driver did not.

The teen’s full list of charges includes first-degree vehicular homicide, second-degree assault by auto, and two separate counts of assault by auto in the third degree. After the crash, new information regarding the deceased victim became clear: He was a 44-year-old chef and native of El Salvador. The family has started a GoFundMe page for funeral costs and lost wages.

Teen Driver Who Caused Fatal Crash Remains Too Injured to Face a Judge

On June 17th, New Jersey 101.5 reported that a teen driver who had killed a passenger and put another in a coma was still too injured to face a judge. He faces charges of aggravated manslaughter while eluding the police, death by auto, assault by auto, child endangerment, resisting arrest, animal cruelty, and an additional four counts of aggravated assault.

These charges stem from an incident back in February of 2026. During an attempted traffic stop, the defendant fled at a high rate of speed in Woodbridge before running a red light and slamming into the side of a Buick. His 17-year-old female passenger died in the impact, and a dog was also killed by the collision. Another passenger suffered critical injuries and was placed in a medically induced coma.

The defendant remains hospitalized, although he apparently had the cognitive ability to reject a plea deal that would have seen his vehicular homicide charge dropped by prosecutors. That plea deal would have led to a 20-year prison sentence.

E-Bikes Continue to Threaten Teens in New Jersey

In recent weeks, multiple high-profile e-bike crashes have also injured or killed New Jersey teens. Back in May of 2026, a teen suffered serious injuries after he ran a stop sign and collided with a vehicle in a Middlesex intersection. The teen’s injuries were so severe that first responders rushed him to the emergency room for urgent treatment. Authorities noted he was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the accident.

Almost one month later, in June, a teen in Burlington County lost his life after slamming into the back of a UPS truck on his e-bike. Officials are revealing little about the accident, and the focus is on remembering the young boy’s accomplishments as an athlete. However, the underlying implication is that the teen may have been traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash, potentially after running through a stop sign. These kinds of crashes are all too common in the Garden State.

Perhaps the most tragic aspect of these two crashes is the fact that the state is just a few weeks away from implementing some of the toughest e-bike laws in the nation. These laws are designed to keep teens safe, but clearly, they have arrived too late for certain victims.
