Four Semi-Trucks Involved in Fiery, Fatal Crash
On June 25th, CBS News reported that a fiery semi-truck crash in New Jersey had claimed the life of a single victim. The incident occurred on the New Jersey Turnpike, and it involved four separate semi-trucks. Officials say that at about 4:00 AM, two semi-trucks stopped in the right-hand lane. A third semi-truck then stopped in the center lane, blocking most of the road.
It was at this point that a fourth semi-truck slammed into one of the stopped trucks, causing it to lurch forward and rear-end another semi-truck. All three trucks then burst into flames, becoming fully engulfed. The driver who initially slammed into the back of the stopped truck died in the collision, while the others miraculously survived without any injuries whatsoever.
Officials did not reveal why the three semi-trucks all decided to stop at the same time. Perhaps there was some kind of hazard up ahead, although reports do not describe any particular reason for the stall. What makes this particularly dangerous is that the three trucks all decided to stop at the same time, leaving very little space for approaching traffic to get past.
An accident investigation is ongoing, and officials may eventually conclude that one or more of these truckers contributed to the crash by stopping illegally and endangering other drivers. These kinds of crashes are all too common, and truckers often park illegally in the middle of the highway in a way that drastically increases the chances of fatal collisions.
Lawsuit Alleges That Truck Driver Fell Asleep for a Full Seven Seconds Before Fatal Crash
On June 26th, NJ.com reported that a wrongful death lawsuit was proceeding in New Jersey, and the plaintiffs allege that the victim was killed by a trucker who fell asleep at the wheel. The crash occurred in June of 2025 when a man was pushing his girlfriend in a stalled vehicle on I-78. A trucker then approached from behind, struck the stalled vehicle, and crushed the victim against another truck parked on the shoulder.
The plaintiffs accessed driver-facing dashcam footage, determining that the trucker was clearly asleep behind the wheel before the crash. In fact, he had been asleep for a full seven seconds before hazard lights woke him up. The plaintiffs used this footage to argue that the trucker was clearly overworked, fatigued, and unfit to be driving a commercial vehicle. Finally, the plaintiffs pointed to the trucker’s logbook, arguing that he was beyond the hours of service allowed under federal transport laws.
Note that these plaintiffs also sued the trucking company responsible for the other truck on the shoulder, alleging that it was parked illegally. The trucker who struck the victim was also charged with homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, and two counts of reckless endangerment.
New Jersey Trucker Cited for Rolling Over Dump Truck
On June 26, the New York State Police announced that a New Jersey truck driver had been cited in connection with a dump truck rollover. The female trucker reportedly lost control while entering a service area on I-87 before her dump truck overturned. The crash spilled trash all across the highway, and officials say that speed was a contributing factor. No injuries were reported, but this incident could have been much worse and dump trucks are frequently involved in serious collisions in New Jersey
