Over the past few weeks, major semi-truck accidents in New Jersey have resulted in serious destruction. The incidents covered in this article are not the only truck accidents worth talking about, as others have undoubtedly caused considerable harm as well. However, these are the incidents that stand out, and they illustrate how reckless and negligent drivers can be in New Jersey. If you are recovering from injuries after a semi-truck accident, consider speaking with an experienced injury attorney for further guidance.
Semi-Truck Crashes Into New Jersey Overpass, Leaving One Victim Dead
On April 17, 2026, CBS News reported that a semi-truck had slammed into an overpass on Route 295, leaving the driver deceased. The incident occurred near Malton, and police arrived at the scene shortly after midday. First responders quickly deduced that the trucker inside, a 39-year-old from Trenton, had died.
Officials believe that this trucker somehow lost control of this heavy, commercial vehicle moments before the crash. This loss of control caused him to veer sharply to the left, bringing him into contact with a concrete support beam underneath the overpass. It is not exactly clear what caused the trucker to initially lose control.
Overpass crashes of this nature are unfortunately becoming quite common. In this specific instance, the trucker struck a support column. However, truckers are increasingly striking the actual overpass itself because they are not familiar with the height restrictions of their own vehicles. This is often down to poor training and negligent hiring practices.
Semi-Truck Almost Bulldozes New Jersey Business
On April 13th, 2026, NBC New York reported that a semi-truck had almost completely destroyed a business in Clifton. Officials say that the semi-truck initially veered off Route 3 before careening into a limousine business at around 2:30 AM. The semi-truck struck the building with such force that the entire structure almost collapsed, and the driver was trapped inside the wreckage of a collapsed roof when first responders arrived.
After the trucker was extricated, he was transported to a nearby hospital by paramedics. One other individual was also in the building at the time of the impact, and first responders had to help them escape using a ladder. No other injuries were reported, although the crash could have been much worse. The damage to the building is perhaps the most notable consequence, and the entire structure may need to be knocked down.
Again, the most obvious question is why the trucker lost control and veered off the highway. Local authorities are investigating the crash, and various factors could have contributed to the crash. Due to the fact that the accident occurred at 2:30 AM, the trucker might have been sleep-deprived.
Two Semi-Trucks Smash Into Each Other in Deptford Township
Also in April, ABC Action News reported that two semi-trucks had collided with each other on the New Jersey Turnpike. The accident occurred at around 1:00 AM, and it reportedly left pieces of both trucks spread across multiple lanes. As a result, crews had to work long into the night to clear away the wreckage. The report did not indicate whether any injuries had occurred or how the crash happened.
Box Truck Crash in Newark Kills Two People
At around the same time, News 12 New Jersey reported that two people had lost their lives in a box truck near Newark. The incident occurred on I-78, and it involved a box truck veering off the highway and into a concrete barrier. The vehicle then continued onward before striking a light post and flipping over. Finally, the box truck rolled into what officials described as a “dirt area” before coming to a rest.
During the crash, the 35-year-old driver was ejected from the vehicle and lost his life. His single passenger, a 46-year-old individual from Brooklyn, also died as the vehicle rolled and impacted numerous structures. Officials are not sure what caused the driver to veer into the concrete barrier. The crash happened at 6:27, suggesting that sleep deprivation probably was not a factor. Other possibilities include mechanical issues, distractions, or poor road conditions.
