On June 4, 2020 Jada Smith of Teaneck, NJ was operating her motor vehicle south on the New Jersey Turnpike in Fort Lee when she was involved in an accident that left her vehicle disabled in the right lane.
When Ms. Smith attempted to exit her vehicle, she was struck by a truck that continued to travel after hitting her. Tragically, the collision caused Ms. Smith’s death. Eventually the truck driver was apprehended, arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with fatal injuries and hindering apprehension.
Much investigation will need to occur where it can be determined if the truck driver was on the road for longer than he should have been, whether there were any substances in his blood that could have contributed to erratic driving, whether he was driving the speed limit, if he was talking on his cell phone, etc.
