Child Injured After School Bus Crash in Little Egg Harbor Township

In mid-June of 2025, 6 ABC Action News reported that a school bus had crashed in Little Egg Harbor Township. The accident occurred at around noon, and the vehicle was carrying seven children when it collided with a sedan. Authorities eventually determined that it was the bus driver who caused the crash, as he was cited for failing to yield. However, the circumstances that led to the crash are not exactly clear.

The female driver of the sedan was trapped inside her vehicle after the collision, and she had to be extricated by first responders. Thankfully, her injuries were non-life-threatening. Aside from this victim, a young student on the school bus was also hospitalized. The exact nature of the child’s injuries is not clear.

The repeated negligence of bus drivers in New Jersey is a recurring theme, and people have started asking pointed questions about hiring practices within the school districts.

Six-Year-Old Killed After Being Struck by UPS Truck

At around the same time, ABC 7 Eyewitness News reported that a six-year-old had been struck and killed by a UPS truck in Jersey City. The child was reportedly riding his bike in his neighborhood when the fatal collision occurred. The crash occurred at about 4:00 PM, just after school on Friday.

UPS truck driver remained at the scene, and local police did not file any charges in the immediate aftermath. However, this crash is still under investigation. Local residents say that this crash might have been avoided if the municipality had simply installed more bike lanes in Jersey City.

Teen Faces Consequences for Using Phone While Driving

Also in mid-June, NJ.com reported that a teenager was facing consequences for using his smartphone before causing a fatal crash. The crash occurred back in May, and it occurred on the New Jersey Turnpike at about 1:00 AM. Aside from being distracted by his phone, the 19-year-old was speeding and intoxicated. He remains behind bars while awaiting a trial.

While speeding down the Turnpike, the defendant lost control of his SUV and veered off the road. The vehicle then slammed into a tree, and the impact killed two of the six occupants in the vehicle. Four were ejected from the SUV, which was reportedly “split in half” by the tree.

The driver and two other passengers suffered serious injuries, while another passenger escaped with only “moderate” injuries. However, a 19-year-old and a 14-year-old were not so fortunate, and they lost their lives in the crash. Police officers found empty alcohol containers in the vehicle and determined that the driver’s BAC level was 0.047%. Although this is below the legal limit of 0.08%, 19-year-olds are not allowed to have any alcohol in their bodies while driving in New Jersey.

To make matters even worse for the defendant, a cellphone recovered from the crash recorded the entire incident. The footage shows the driver using his own phone while driving and narrowly missing impacts with other vehicles. The defendant now faces charges of second-degree vehicular manslaughter, third-degree child endangerment, and many others.

In addition, the driver did not have a valid license when he was driving. His defense attorneys pushed for his pre-trial release, arguing that he had a job and cared for his one-year-old daughter. However, prosecutors pointed out that he represents a threat to the community due to his reckless driving.
