WHAT IS A SPINAL CORD INJURY?
According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), a spinal injury is caused by a traumatic and/or sudden blow to the spine which results in the dislocation or fracture of vertebraes. The actual damage occurs when displaced disc material, ligaments, or bone fragments tear into or bruise the spinal cord tissue.
